2026 Kai Cup Memorial Yacht Race

We are thrilled to announce that the second annual Kai Cup Memorial Yacht Race and Community Event weekend was an amazing success!

This year we fundraised for Trans Northland again while raising awareness and support for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults. 

The community social event at Earth Rider Brewing on Friday, September 11 had nearly 100 attendees, 5 local organizations and business tabling, live music from local band Tres Osos, $6000 in raffle prizes donated from over 40 businesses and individuals, and raised over $3500 for Trans Northland.

Leading up to Saturday, September 12, we had 26 boats registered for the memorial sailboat race, raising funds to “buy up” their handicap rating to be more competitive on the race course. This generated an additional ~$19,000 in donations for Trans Northland! We are blown away by the continued generosity (and competitiveness) of our community!

In total over $22,000 was raised for Trans Northland in honor of Kai Hoenig this year. This puts our two-year total at over $47,000.
